NEW MUSIC AND MOVEMENT PROGRAM PROMOTES EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
NEW MUSIC AND MOVEMENT PROGRAM PROMOTES EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
|
|
|
July 1, 2008. Executive Director Brooke Bronson announced the beginning of a new Music and Movement Program. This program complements and supports our early childhood curriculum and will address the needs of our children in a safe, predictable, structured and fun approach to aquiring the skills necessary for healthy development. Services and activities provided are directly related to children's developmental milestones regarding the key areas of child development such as cognitive, speech and language emotional, physical, and socialization skills in the areas of music and movement. The program is facilitiated by teachers of early childhood development who have created a music and movement curriculum/program. This is accomplished through the use of musical instruments, fine and gross motor movement, nursery rhymes, puppetry, song, and classic children's literature brought to life through music. The activities are thematically based and involve development of early childhood such as numbers, shapes, opposites, colors and categories such as farm animals, transportation and family. This program will also encourage social skills such as cooperation, turn-taking, teamwork, active listening skills, and good manners.

INDOOR SPORTS ACTIVITY AT "WEST" -- WINNERS' EDGE SPORT TRAINING PROGRAM
INDOOR SPORTS ACTIVITY AT "WEST" -- WINNERS' EDGE SPORT TRAINING PROGRAM

April 24, 2008. WEST, Winner's Edge Sports Training, provides the children of The Huntington Freedom Center with a place to learn sportsmanship and following directions, as well as basic fundamentals of soccer and baseball. Thanks to a generous donation from the owners of WEST, Sheila and K.C. Whitlow, they have made their venue an indoor playground for the children during the cold winter months. Toddlers, aged 18 months to 3 years old, and Pre-Kindergarten students, 3 years to 5 years old, have been treated to a session every week with General Manager and Coach Herman Pietrera and his staff.
The children have learned to complete obstacle courses, controlling soccer balls with their feet, and enjoying the large open "playground." The lessons are especially appreciated by children and teachers alike when inclement weather during the winter prevents the children from playing on their school's outdoor playground.
The children are learning important social skills, as well, by following directions, learning patience when waiting their turn, and respecting authority. Most of all, of course, they're all having fun.
